Swedish movies
I think the companion piece to "Let the Right One In" should be another piece about gender-blurring in the Swedish suburbs, "Fucking Åmål" by Lukas Moodysson. Like the vampire movie, a really sweet love story (this one about two girls). It was a gigantic hit in Sweden when it was released (in the late 90s). I love it.
Anyhow, I'm working on my novel which features a group of girls inspired by this film so I've been listening to this song this morning.
Also: Moodysson made a movie called "Hole in My heart" a few years ago that was widely castigated because of its violence and graphic/gross sexuality. I think it's a really great movie and wildly experimental. It's about some losers starting a porn company in a small suburban apartment (and the poor goth kid who has to endure his horrificly grotesque dad). The trailer:
I really recommend all of these movies and my novel (an excerpt of which Andrew Lundwall will publish as an e-chapbook in July).

Have you heard about/seen Mammut?
No, I haven't even read about it. I know about "Container" but I haven't seen it.
Also of interest: Moodysson started out as a kind of teenage genius slam poet before making Fucking Amal when he was like 25.
Fucking Amal (slash "Show Me Love") is one of my favorite movies of the 90s. One of the few "feel good" movies that actually makes me feel goodness rather than loathing.
Moodysson is so great. I like everything he's ever done, including Together and Lilya 4-Ever.

What's with Scandinavians and cartoonish violence? First black metal, now this?
Oh, wait, Emperor, Mayhew, Dimmu Borgir are all Norwegians.
Shining, Leviathan, Bathory are all Swedish, and I think Abruptum are too.
And i think there's a lot more to Black Metal than cartoonish violence.
By the way, the dude from twilight is playing Varg Vikernes in the movie inspired by the book "Lords of Chaos", about the early ninties BM scene in norway
yeah, Sweden had something better than black metal, they had some of the best dbeat doom crust punk bands of all times, Totalitär, Avskum, Skitsystem,Disfear & don't forget Raped Teenagers...
